A healthy braking system is essential when driving, as it allows you to control your speed at any time. As time passes, braking components can wear out or become damaged, and braking will become more difficult. As your Buick dealer, we’d like you to know some signs that you need to visit us for a brake repair ASAP.

Signs You Need a Brake Repair at Your Buick Dealer

Pulling to One Side

If your car pulls to one side when you brake, this is a sign that something is wrong. When you hit the brakes, pressurized brake fluid forces the calipers to close on the wheel rotor. A set of calipers is located above each wheel rotor, and they grab and hold both sides of each rotor. Brake pads located inside the calipers generate friction against the rotors which brings the wheels to a halt.

The calipers are designed to engage simultaneously, and your car turns because one of the calipers has failed to engage. This fault could be due to a rusted caliper that doesn’t grab the rotor as it’s supposed to. It could also be caused by a blockage in the brake hose leading to the affected caliper. We’ll identify the cause of the failure and repair it.

Soft Brake Pedal

Brake fluid enables the braking system to work, and this fluid is pressurized when you step on the pedal. High pressure is essential as the fluid must force the system to engage when you brake. You can feel the pressure in the system as it generates resistance when you press down on the pedal. If you step on the pedal and feel little resistance, your brakes are in trouble.

The lack of resistance means that pressure in the braking system is low. Low pressure could be due to a brake fluid leak, a damaged master cylinder, which controls the braking system, or a blockage in the brake hoses or lines. We’ll examine your brakes and fix the cause of the problem.

Noisy Brakes

Healthy brakes don’t make any sound when they work, and this makes strange noise from the brakes very unnerving. Screeching, grinding, and squealing noises are a few of the noises you might hear if your brakes are damaged. Worn brake pads make screeching sounds. These pads produce the friction that stops your wheels, and the loud noise means they’ve worn out and need to be replaced.

Grinding noises might be made by damaged pads gouging the surface of a rotor or by a stone or other object trapped in a caliper. Squealing noises are usually made due to water or mud on the pads. Our technicians will investigate and repair the cause of the noise.

Driving with worn brakes could lead to an accident. Visit us today at Dutch Miller’s Beckley Automall in Beckley, WV, and we’ll repair them.
