The Terrain is the entry point to the GMC range and the redesign changed it more than the badge suggests. One engine across the line, a 1.5L turbo four making 175 horsepower, but the drivetrain choice changes the vehicle underneath it. Front-wheel-drive Terrains use a continuously variable transmission and are rated 184 lb-ft. All-wheel-drive Terrains use a conventional eight-speed automatic and are rated 203 lb-ft. Same engine, meaningfully different vehicle to drive, and it is the single most overlooked fact about the current Terrain.

That difference is why every new Terrain on our lot is all-wheel drive. Between the grade on US-19, winter traffic heading to Winterplace, and the ordinary business of getting up an unplowed driveway in February, the eight-speed and the extra torque are worth having here in a way they are not in flatter parts of the country. It is also worth being clear about the limits: the Terrain tows 1,500 lbs properly equipped with all-wheel drive, and 800 lbs in front-wheel drive. That is a small utility trailer or a pair of jet skis, not a camper.

Three trims, and they are genuinely different rather than stepped. Elevation is the value trim but hardly basic, with a 15-inch portrait touchscreen, an 11-inch driver display, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel standard, plus over sixteen standard driver-assist features. AT4 is all-wheel drive only and is the one built to be used: a lifted ride height, an exclusive Terrain drive mode for low-speed crawling, a front skid plate with a steel underbody shield, red recovery hooks and all-terrain tires on dark machined wheels, with premium cloth inside rather than leather because that is the point of it. Denali is also all-wheel drive only and is where ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, animated LED lighting and the Rear Camera Mirror become standard. Use the links below to filter.

Why Buy Your Terrain at Dutch Miller's Beckley Automall

  • All-wheel drive is what we stock. All 18 new Terrains here are all-wheel drive, which also means they all have the eight-speed automatic rather than the front-drive CVT. That is deliberate. It is what works on a Beckley winter.
  • You can feel the drivetrain difference on a real road. Front-drive Terrains use a CVT and make 184 lb-ft. All-wheel-drive Terrains use an eight-speed and make 203 lb-ft. We will take you somewhere with an actual grade rather than around the lot.
  • Certified service close to home. Oil changes, brakes, batteries and tires handled here, and we keep service information for customers coming from Mount Hope, Oak Hill and Summersville. See the service department.
  • Easy to get to, easy to compare. We are at 3934 Robert C. Byrd Dr. in Beckley. Tell us which trims you want to see and we will have them pulled up front and unlocked when you arrive.

Buying a GMC Terrain in Beckley, WV: Common Questions

Is the Terrain a good vehicle to lease?

It is one of the more commonly leased vehicles we sell, largely because compact SUV buyers tend to change vehicles on a predictable cycle and drive moderate annual miles. The questions that decide it are how many miles you drive a year and whether you want to own it at the end. Bring us your real annual mileage rather than an optimistic estimate, because that is what determines whether a lease works out or stings at turn-in.

Do you work with buyers who are building credit?

Yes, and the Terrain is often where that conversation starts. Our finance team works with a range of credit situations rather than one narrow band, and we would rather tell you honestly what is achievable now than put you into something that becomes a problem in six months. If you have been declined elsewhere, it is still worth a conversation. Call 304-253-8083 and we can talk before you come in.

Should I pay for all-wheel drive, or is front-wheel drive fine here?

Drive both before you decide, because on the Terrain the drivetrain changes the transmission too, and that is something you feel rather than read. Every new Terrain we stock is all-wheel drive, which reflects what people in this area choose once they have driven a winter here. If front-wheel drive is what you want, we can locate one, and good tires matter more than drivetrain either way.

Can I have the Terrain serviced here after I buy it?

Yes, and it is worth asking about at purchase rather than afterward. Our certified service department handles oil changes, brakes, batteries and tires, and prepaid maintenance can be built into the deal if you would rather have it settled up front. If you are driving in from Mount Hope, Oak Hill or Summersville, ask us about scheduling, because the first appointment is the one people put off.

What is the difference between buying a new Terrain and a used one?

More than the model year, and this one catches people out. Older Terrains are the previous generation, with different trim names, a different interior and a much smaller screen. They are not simply used versions of what is listed on this page. If the large portrait display and the current cabin are what brought you here, the new stock is what you want. We will show you both honestly so you can see the difference.

Can I start the process online and finish it here?

Yes. You can get pre-approved, value your trade and work out a payment before you ever come in, then use the visit for the part that actually needs to happen in person, which is driving the thing. Bring your licence, proof of insurance and your trade's title or payoff details. Most people who do the paperwork online first are in and out considerably faster.
