The Yukon XL exists to solve one problem: cargo space behind an occupied third row. It is the long-wheelbase Yukon, roughly fifteen inches longer overall, and effectively all of that length goes into third-row legroom and the load floor behind it. Same trims, same engines and the same technology as the standard Yukon. Three powertrains are available: the 5.3L V8 at 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft, the 6.2L V8 at 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft, and the 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel at 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft, all on a ten-speed automatic and all available across the range.
If you tow with it, the engine ranking is not what you would guess. The Yukon XL's maximum is 8,300 lbs, and that comes with the 5.3L V8 in two-wheel drive with the Max Trailering Package, not with the 6.2L and not with the diesel. The Duramax is the one engine that gains nothing at all from the trailering package, sitting at 7,900 lbs in two-wheel drive either way. What the diesel does give you is the most relaxed vehicle of the three on a long run, and the most torque for holding a camper steady on the climbs and descents between here and Summersville Lake or out toward Lewisburg.
Suspension is the most substantive difference between trims and the easiest one to miss. The Elevation gets neither adaptive system as standard. The AT4 and Denali add Magnetic Ride Control. The AT4 Ultimate and Denali Ultimate come with four-corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, which is what allows load levelling and ride-height changes and is worth more than most of the cosmetic differences if you tow. Seating splits too: Elevation and AT4 seat eight on a bench, while the Denali and both Ultimate trims seat seven in captain's chairs. Super Cruise is standard on the AT4 Ultimate and Denali Ultimate and optional lower down.

Why Buy Your Yukon XL at Dutch Miller's Beckley Automall
- We stock the long body on purpose. Seven Yukon XLs with the Denali making up most of them, because families around here are solving for cargo space behind an occupied third row, not for a shorter SUV.
- Yukon and Yukon XL parked next to each other. We usually have both bodies on the ground at the same time, which is the only real way to decide whether the extra fifteen inches works in your driveway.
- Duramax and Air Ride supported in house. Both are available on the XL and both need a shop that knows them. Our service department handles the diesel and the air suspension rather than making it your problem in three years.
- Trailer and roof rack work before delivery. Hitch hardware, wiring and roof racks can be added through our parts department and built into the deal. We are at 3934 Robert C. Byrd Dr. in Beckley.

Buying a GMC Yukon XL in Beckley, WV: Common Questions
Can you find a Yukon XL in the exact configuration I want?
Usually, and with stock in single digits it is often the practical route. The odds of your precise combination of trim, engine, interior and second-row seating being on the lot are low. We can search the GM network first or place a factory order, which is the only way to get the diesel in a specific trim or the second-row executive seating. Call 304-253-8083 and we will be realistic about timing rather than optimistic.
How do I decide between the Yukon and the Yukon XL before I commit?
Park them next to each other, which we can usually arrange because we tend to stock both. Then do two things: measure your garage, and load whatever you actually travel with into the back of each one with the third row up. The extra length is roughly fifteen inches and it is almost all cargo floor. That either solves your problem or it does not, and it is much easier to tell in person than on paper.
I am driving in from out of town. What can we sort out beforehand?
Most of it. We can agree the vehicle, appraise your trade from photos and details, get you pre-approved and have the paperwork substantially prepared before you leave home, so the visit is a drive and a signature rather than a full day. Send us photos of the trade including the tires and the interior, and tell us your payoff, so the number we give you over the phone is the number you get here.
Should the tow package go on at purchase?
If there is any chance you will tow, yes. Hitch hardware and wiring fitted at purchase can be included in the deal and done to factory spec, and on a vehicle like this the trailering equipment also interacts with which engine and axle you should have chosen in the first place. Tell us what you plan to pull before you pick the powertrain, because that order of decisions saves people real money.
Is the diesel worth choosing, and does it change the buying decision?
Drive it before you decide, because the case for it is about how it feels on a long run rather than what it tows. It is the most relaxed of the three engines at highway speed and it has the most torque. It does not, however, reach the highest tow rating in this vehicle, which surprises people. If most of your miles are highway rather than heavy towing, it is worth the drive. If you tow at the limit, we will say so.
What happens with my current vehicle if I still owe on it?
We handle it openly. Bring the payoff amount and the lender, and we will show you the appraisal and the payoff as separate figures so you can see exactly where you stand. If you owe more than it is worth, we will tell you that plainly and talk through the options rather than hiding it inside a monthly payment. Sometimes the honest answer is to wait, and we would rather say so.
Vehicle availability, equipment, options and features change daily and are subject to prior sale. Some equipment or features may be limited by supply. Towing, payload and range figures are manufacturer estimates for a properly equipped vehicle and vary with configuration, so please confirm that any vehicle you are considering includes the equipment you expect before you buy.
